late night visitors

Last night at the guest house was woken up by Security Forces banging on my door around midnight. Routine check, apprently. They just wanted me to open up the door so they could see my face. Great.

Should be moving out soon, VSO's finally deposited some money into my Nepali account so now I get to populate my place with vitals like a bed, a fridge, perhaps a stove if i can afford it...

Tihar is coming up (the next big holiday). Some of the other vols are going rafting again, this time i'm going to stick around and move into my place. Kathmandu is supposed to be quite beautiful during the "Night of Light" when everyone lights up their houses. That's a little different from the main celebration during Desain, when thousands of goats, water buffalo, sheep and chickens are sacrificed. Most of the sacrifices (as far as I can tell) go into protecting busses and cars, etc. A goat is sacrificed for each plane of Nepali Air.

Night of light sounds a lot better.
